Information we collect
We only collect what we need to answer your enquiry and act on your matter:
- Details you give us through the enquiry forms: your name, email address, telephone number, company (if any), whether you are a building owner, adjoining owner or another party, and your message.
- Any documents or photographs you attach to an enquiry. These are stored privately and are only accessible to us.
- Correspondence, notices, awards and file records created while we act for you.
- Basic technical information about how the website is used — only where you have accepted optional cookies (see below). We do not collect this to identify you, and no optional cookies are set if you choose "Essential only".
How we use it
We use your information to respond to your enquiry, provide quotes, serve and receive notices, prepare schedules of condition and awards, keep proper professional records, and meet our legal and regulatory obligations as surveyors.
Our lawful bases are the performance of a contract with you, our legitimate interests in running a surveying practice, your consent where cookies are optional, and compliance with legal obligations.
Cookies and consent
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. This website uses them sparingly and in two groups.
- Essential cookies. These keep the site and its secure areas working, for example by remembering that you are signed in and by remembering the choice you make on the cookie banner. The site cannot work properly without them, so they are set without asking.
- Optional cookies. These help us understand which pages are used and how visitors move around the site. They are only set if you accept them.
The first time you visit, a cookie consent banner appears at the bottom of the screen — on desktop and on mobile. It explains the two groups and offers two choices:
- Accept all — essential cookies plus the optional ones.
- Essential only — essential cookies, with no optional cookies set. The site works exactly as it should.
Your choice is recorded in your browser and in a first-party cookie named pws_cookie_consent, which lasts 12 months. The banner then stays out of your way on later visits.
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time by clearing this site's cookies and site data in your browser settings, or by emailing us — we will then ask again on your next visit. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser at any time, though essential cookies are needed for the secure parts of the site.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We share it only where it is necessary to act on your matter — for example with the other owner's surveyor, an engineer or specialist consultant, or the third-party appointed surveyor in a party wall award — and with service providers who host our website and email on our behalf. We may also share information where the law or a court requires it.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not proceed are kept for up to two years so we can pick up the thread if you come back to us. Party wall files, notices and awards are kept for at least six years after the matter closes, and longer where a dispute, claim or statutory requirement means we must. Attachments you send with an enquiry are stored privately and deleted with the enquiry record.
Your rights
You have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected if it is wrong, to have it erased where we have no continuing reason to keep it, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. Where our use is based on your consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time.
To make a request, email admin@partywallservices.com. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add a new service or change the cookies the site uses. The date at the top of this page always shows the current version.
